Gun Grip: How I Improved in Five Seconds

So many would still call me a newbie in terms of shooting. I can shoot my PPQ with nearly pinpoint accuracy, but I couldn’t necessarily put five round in an 5″ circle at 5 yards in five seconds. My second shot would always be super low and left as I slapped the trigger and overcompensated for recoil. But I have a habit of watching a ton of videos, taking courses, and the like. Even the ones who might be hated, because I believe everybody can teach us something.  Continue reading Gun Grip: How I Improved in Five Seconds

Challenge Accepted: Helping Others at the Range

So, a couple of years ago, I posted a challenge to all my shooter friends to be good ambassadors, and help receptive new shooters. And I was reminded of a fairly recent situation I encountered on my local range. Continue reading Challenge Accepted: Helping Others at the Range

Downtown Denver Shooting – 15th and Wynkoop

This one came very close to home – and not entirely figuratively.

Earlier this afternoon, an apparent lone gunman gained access to the building at 1536 Wynkoop in Downtown Denver and began shooting. Right now, I don’t have his name (nor would I publish it here, if I did), nor a motive or what type of weapon he used. What drives this to me is another factor: his location. BOOK REVIEW – Deadly Force – Understanding Your Right to Self Defense (Ayoob)

Deadly Force – Understanding Your Right to Self Defense is a book I received as part of my new membership to Armed Citizen’s Legal Defense Network. I did not know this was the book I would receive, but I was glad, since the book had been on my list for some time prior to becoming an ACLDN member. OnCamera and Using Your Phone as a Defensive Tool

So earlier today, somebody showed me this video of the use of an app called OnCamera. The idea is that a potential victim, who has already signed up for the service, notices an attack about to come upon her (or him, let’s not be sexist, here). She grabs her phone out of her purse or pocket, presses a “big red button”. That person would almost immediately be in a two-way video conversation with the police. The victim would point the phone at the attacker – presumably so the camera would record his/her face), and a live police officer “First Officer” says something like “Your face has been recorded. If you walk away, you will be free to go. If you continue, you will be arrested…” blah blah blah. Continue reading OnCamera and Using Your Phone as a Defensive Tool

The “New” G2 R.I.P. Bullet – The Last You’ll Ever Need…?

Okay, so a lot of people have been sending me links, or tagging me on Facebook, or the like about this “new” R.I.P. round from G2.

Some of the claims:

  • 14-16″ Penetration
  • Up to 6″ diameter spread
  • 92 gr. solid copper / lead free projectile
  • 2″ grouping at 25 yrds
  • 1265 FPS average (+/- 10%)
  • 9 Separate Wound Channels
  • Precision Machined
  • Solid Copper / Lead Free
  • Defeats all known barriers such as sheet metal, sheet rock, windshields, plywood, heavy winter clothing.

But is it really all it’s cracked up to be? Thankfully, I don’t need to test it. Plenty of people more experienced than I already have.

OK Schools No Longer Victim Disarmament Zones

Oklahoma is now moving away from victim disarmament zones in their schools, and allowing completely legal gun-owning and licensed school staff (not just teachers) to carry on school property.

HB 2014 passed in the Oklahoma Senate on April 22 by a vote of 40 to 5. It passed the House on May 6 by a vote of 82 to 12.

Why Dynel Lane Isn’t Being Charged With Murder

This post is going to touch on some very controversial subjects, and likely anger at least a couple of my readers. But I think it’s worth thinking this situation all the way through. The legal situation could easily slide into a case where I know many women would be staunchly opposed to going. Continue reading Why Dynel Lane Isn’t Being Charged With Murder

RANGE REPORT: My Brand New Walther P22 (.22LR)

So as I’ve posted previously, there’s a new local gun shop in Lakewood. Well, the Missus and I found ourselves with a little extra tax money, and decided to pull the trigger (pun intended) on something we’d been planning on getting for a while.

A Walther P22 pistolContinue reading RANGE REPORT: My Brand New Walther P22 (.22LR)
